Privacy Policy
Last updated October 7, 2026
DoBuddy is a personal planner. This policy explains what information the app handles, why, and the choices you have. The short version: without an account your planner stays on your phone. If you sign in, we keep your planner on our server so it can sync and so focus points, your room and friends work. Anonymous usage statistics are collected only if you allow them. We don’t sell your data or use it to train AI models. The app shows an optional video ad (Google AdMob) before theme and buddy changes; see “Ads” below.
Using the app without an account
Tasks, categories, notes, reminders, your name and your settings are stored only on your phone. We can’t see them. Uninstalling the app or using Settings → Delete all data removes them.
Usage statistics (only if you allow them)
If you turn on “Share anonymous usage statistics” (when you start, or in Settings → Privacy & legal), the app sends Google Analytics counts of what happens in it: screens opened, tasks completed, focus sessions and their length, which buddy you pick and how many items it wears, plus the basic details Google Analytics collects about any app (app version, device model, system version, language, and an approximate country worked out from your IP address). It never sends what you write (task titles, notes, names), your email address or your account, and no advertising ID is used. It is off unless you turn it on.
We use these statistics only to see how many people use DoBuddy and what to improve. They are kept in Google Analytics for at most 14 months. Turning the setting off stops collection and resets the data collected from your phone.
Ads
DoBuddy is free and is supported by a short video ad that you can choose to watch before changing your theme or buddy. Ads are provided by Google AdMob. To show and measure ads, AdMob collects your device’s advertising ID, your IP address and basic device and app information, and may use cookies. Where the law requires it (for example in the EU and UK), the app asks for your consent first, and you can change that choice later. You can reset or delete your advertising ID, or opt out of personalised ads, in your phone’s settings (Settings → Google → Ads, or Settings → Privacy → Ads). What you write in DoBuddy is never shared with advertisers. See how Google uses information from apps that use its services.
Buddy artwork
Buddy artwork is downloaded from our own server. These downloads carry no information about you beyond what any web request includes (IP address and the file asked for).
What we collect when you sign in
- From Google Sign-In: your name, email address, profile picture and Google account ID. We never see your Google password.
- Your planner: tasks (including notes and reminder times), categories and when you complete things.
- Focus and rewards: focus sessions, points, items you unlock and your room layout.
- Friends: your friend code, friend requests, friends and cheers you send or receive.
- Settings: your timezone, daily goals and sharing choices.
- Technical data: when the app talks to our server, our hosting provider keeps standard request logs (IP address, time, the address requested and the result) so we can keep the service secure and fix problems. A sign-in token is kept in your phone’s secure storage.
How we use it
- To run the app: saving and syncing your planner across devices.
- To work out your points, level, streaks, insights and reports.
- To show friends what you choose to share with them.
- To keep the service safe, for example by limiting repeated requests and preventing misuse.
- To answer you when you contact us.
We don’t sell or rent your information, use it for advertising, or use it to train AI models.
What friends can see
Only people you have both accepted as friends can see your name, picture, level, friend code, the tasks you share (never their notes or reminders), your shared history, stats, insights and room. Private tasks are never shown. You can turn off “Share my planner with friends” in Settings at any time.
Your email address is never shown to other people. Someone who already knows your email address or friend code can send you a friend request, which you can decline.
Permissions on your phone
- Notifications: to show your task reminders, and cheers and friend requests from friends.
- Alarms & reminders: so reminders arrive on time.
- Run at startup: to set your reminders again after your phone restarts.
- Do Not Disturb access: only if you turn on Super Focus, to switch Do Not Disturb on and off during a focus session. We don’t read your notifications.
- Vibration and internet access.
- Files: only the file you pick when you export or import a backup.
DoBuddy does not access your contacts, location, camera, microphone or photos.
Who we share it with
We use a few service providers to run the app. They process your information only on our behalf:
- Google, for sign-in, and Google Analytics, only if you allow usage statistics.
- Google Firebase Cloud Messaging, to deliver notifications (cheers, friend requests, reminders) to your phone.
- Google AdMob, to show the optional video ads (see “Ads”).
- Render, which hosts our server (United States).
- MongoDB Atlas, which hosts our database (United States).
We may also disclose information if the law requires it. We don’t share it with anyone else.
Storage and security
Your information travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS) and is stored in the United States. If you live elsewhere, it is transferred there. Sign-in tokens expire after 15 minutes and are renewed using a token that expires after 30 days. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information.
How long we keep it
We keep your information for as long as you have an account. When you delete your account, your profile, tasks, categories, history, focus sessions, points, items, room, friendships, cheers and sign-in tokens are removed from our database right away. Request logs are kept by our hosting provider for a limited time and then deleted. Data on your phone stays until you delete it there.
Your choices and rights
- See and copy your data: Settings → Your data → Export my data.
- Correct it: edit anything directly in the app.
- Delete your account: Settings → Danger zone → Delete my account, or see how to delete your account.
- Stop sharing: turn off “Share my planner with friends”, or make tasks private.
- Sign out at any time; your tasks stay on your phone.
Depending on where you live (for example the EU, UK, California or India), you may have more rights, such as asking for a copy of your information or objecting to how it is used. Email us and we’ll reply within 30 days.
Children
DoBuddy is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country). We don’t knowingly collect information from them. If you think a child has given us information, contact us and we’ll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top. If the changes are significant, we’ll also tell you in the app.
